The artist relocated to the Seattle area in 2009 after a long career in Alaska as a museum curator and painter. He and his wife, Sybil, traveled and lived in Turkey and France between 2006 and 2008. DeRoux graduated from the San Francisco Art Institute in 1969 with a BFA in photography/film. He was manager of Canyon Cinema Filmmakers’Cooperative in the early 1970s and later was film curator at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. He returned to his hometown of Juneau in 1978 where he worked at the Alaska State Museum and began painting.
